What a Week!

This has been an incredibly busy week around our house....
Family in town....the other side {family} having our annual reunion at the Shamrock Club....classes....work.....Maggie growing up.....oops
When did it happen???....she was a sweet little bundle of joy.  A very shy, dear, dear baby.
My sweet Maggie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the tender age of 5.  It was very difficult...she was very ill.  I have such a love for this child and the tears are all still right there when I think of how ill she was....

But this week she attended a wedding with her special friend....

rehearsal dinner

She grew up...when your kids start going to weddings without you....they have grown up!

day of the wedding

She texted me last night that she caught the bouquet!

I received a lovely package this week from Trish at Notes of Sincerity....

Inside the package was this incredible bracelet for me!!!

And one for Molly!

Such a fantastic, wonderful surprise!  Our quilting community is full of amazing people!  And if you have not visited Trish's blog...it is full of inspiration!

A huge highlight of my week was meeting {in person} Carla of Lollyquiltz!!!  We have exchanged emails and I was thrilled to know we would have the opportunity to meet!  She is just as sweet in person as she is on her blog.  I wish I had the chance to just sit and sew with her...I know there is so much I could learn!  So glad we had a chance to meet and put a face to the words :)

I need to crop Maggie's face and paste it to mine....LOL!

**just a side note** I would encourage everyone to learn the symptoms of diabetes....my Maggie was diagnosed at the age of 5 and my Molly was diagnosed at the age of 11.  Fortunately, we were aware of the symptoms before Molly became a very sick little girl. Of course, they have Type 1 or Juvenile Diabetes....it is good to just have in the back of your mind what to look for.
We are off today to visit with more family!  Have a great Labor Day Weekend everyone!
mary :)

  2. I have a grandson with Type1 diabetes, he too was a very sick little boy until they finally got things figured out..He is a 'big' little boy now (22) and has been doing so well since he was in high school. He got an insulin pump and it has really been good for him.
    Happy weekend!

  5. Hi Mary.
As you know, our Katie has type 1 Diabetes. What a scary time it was when she was first diagnosed (at 4.5 years old). We sure learned a lot, in a very short amount of time, as I am sure you did as well.
Your girls are just so pretty! They look so healthy. :o)
I am so glad you love your bracelets. I could not have quilted like I do with out you! :o) And I still have so long to go, but extremely grateful for all your help via blogging and emails.
You are a doll. You don't need to place anyone's picture over yours!! :o)
    Have a happy Sunday.
    Sincerely, Trish

  10. Thank you, Mary, for working me into your busy week...it was such a highlight for me! Your sweet daughter is a beauty...thanks for the link to the diabetes site...I checked it out for clues to the disease.

  11. I found your blog through Trish's. My baby(22 months) was just diagnosed with Type 1 last week! My husband was dx at age 12. It sure rocks your world...even when you are married to someone with it, to learn that your sweet baby has this too. It was so comforting to read of other mothers ache over this disease and see "a little further down the road) in the picture of your beautiful daughter.

  14. Hi Mary,
you have beautiful daughters. Diabetes is fast becoming an American disease with the Type II brought on by diet and lack of exercise. Nasty disease. I love the inspiration you provide me continually on your blog!!

  16. Hi Mary I'm back!!
shh, though cos I'm still avoiding blogs for another week.

I also wanted to say 'gorgeous!'

And you already know my experience with diabetes. I've rescued my brother a number of times from diambetic comas, not fun!

ps. 5 hours of hand patching is not good for ones hand functions!

  18. I too am the mom of a growing up daughter with diabetes. Meg was diagnosed at 18 months with Type 1 diabetes. She is now almost 18 and out of high school. She is lucky enough to get onto the insulin pump and is doing much better!

As for your daughter catching the bouquet, at my brother's wedding last month, I told the bride to throw it WELL away from Meg! Thank you for bringing info about diabetes in your blog.
