Monday Makes...

Between spurts of sewing I have been working on wedding related things...
It is so exciting to see it all come together.
One of the most wonderful discoveries Molly and I have made during this process is a local designer for the invitations and wedding day items.

I found, Oscar and Emma, very early on in the wedding planning while perusing the pages of Minted....

One designer caught my eye and as fortune would have it...she is a local gal!  Although, had Karly not been local, that would not have stopped me from seeking her out...

I will have much more to show you, but today I want to give you a sneak peek...

It is my theory that people who LOVE fabric also LOVE stationery!  Right????

There will be so much more to come!
happy monday!

Courtin' Cousins....

Such a simple yet perfect design...
The Log Cabin block....
and it's dramatic cousin - Courthouse Steps...

I have done several projects using the Courthouse steps design...and I have even done two toned Courthouse steps, but this is the first red and off-white.   I saw this quilt in the magnificent new book by Denyse Schmidt.
I did not follow the pattern in the book stitch for stitch....

And I did attempt to give it the Denyse loop....not at all perfect....far from it.  But it does the job and adds nice texture...

I do not enjoy free motion quilting as much as I enjoy hand quilting...but I have the wedding quilt to finish hand quilting and this one needed to be finished now.

But I do love the look of perle cotton on these steps....

It just needs a bit of binding and this one will be finished...

I must say, working on this quilt reaffirmed my love for Denyse Schmidt as a fabric and pattern designer.  She is my 'go-to' girl.  I think everything she does speaks to me...I am never disappointed.

Have a wonderful Saturday....

Sneak Peek at Something Modern....

I have, for the first time, joined a Bee!  A Bee for quilters of, let's say, a more mature age....ugh.  Okay...I am certainly not one to focus on age...but it does get my knickers in a knot when folks have the misguided notion that if you are of a certain generation, you just can't relate.  Your ideas are old and out of touch.
Like I said, misguided.....

So....this is a Bee of Mid-Century Modern Quilters....
And our first month is a Churn Dash....

January is Carla's month...
I am hoping to have another block as well....

And another sneak peek at another Modern WIP....Modern with Traditional Inspiration.
From Denyse Schmidt's Book....
Modern Quilts Traditional Inspiration...

Love the reds....reminds me of Valentines Day!

Nothing tired and old about this!
happy monday!

Oops!

What was I thinking....I didn't realize I hadn't posted a picture of the entire Flowering Vine....

apparently, I didn't take a picture of the quilt from top to bottom.  But this one is almost there!
Only a wee bit of one flower not shown.
It is a very simple design...simply lovely :)

First Finish of 2013.....Flowering Vine

The Flowering Vine....

Flowering Vine is an applique pattern from Denyse Schmidt.  A great pattern for those new to hand applique.  Simple shapes, plus the bonus of learning to make bias strips for the vine.  I have mentioned before that I prefer to use bias bars rather than the bias tape maker...for stems at least {more on that later}.

I used a Moda Crossweave as the background fabric.  This is actually a deep denim color.  I find the crossweaves a bit tricky to photograph...they are very rich and I love the texture.

If I have any complaint about the crossweaves...they do tend to stretch a bit.  But it is manageable.

The flowers and leaves are from Denyse Schmidt's, soon to be released line...Shelburne Falls.  LOVE. IT.

For the backing fabric, I borrowed a favorite choice from my friend- Heather Graham {not the actress ;)
I used a Melody Miller fabric...nice and wide so I didn't need to piece....

Flowering Vine is completely hand quilted with #8 perle cotton...Valdani Thread {my favorite}....

This quilt will be hanging in the shoppe {Sew To Speak} and will be a new class this winter {YAY}
happy thursday!
