February means a new block for the Mid-Century Modern Bee...
Cindy chose a great traditional block...the Winged Square block
my block is predominantly made of Denyse Schmidt fabrics, but I chose this great Kokka bug for the center square...
And I have had a request to sew a pickle-dish with a few folks...of course pickle-dish is one of my all time favorites!
I have done a couple of these...
and one for Clare...
me thinks this one will be from Denyse Schmidt's new line Shelburne Falls...
happy thursday!

Pickle dish = LOVE! The pickle dish quilts you've already made are so pretty, and the one with Shelburne Falls is going to be SO sweet! Love the bee block, too. That's the only way I like bugs--when they're in fabric. ;)
ReplyDeleteDumb question of the day, but since I have never made one, is a pickle dish more like a Dresden plate quilt or wedding ring quilt?
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt in the 4th picture...really zingy colours! :) x
ReplyDeleteI love the pickledish, the hand quilted one looked amazing! And same questions as Miss Shay, I couldn't decide if it was more dresden or wedding ring. : )
ReplyDeleteFunny..it's one of my favs too :P
ReplyDeleteI love the pickle dish with the black polka dot centers. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteOh pickle dish + shelburne falls = incredible! And the bug block is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteWhat pattern do you use for the pickle dish quilt?
ReplyDeleteMiss Shay, not a dumb question at all...in fact it is brilliant! I would have to say it is a combination. It is pieced much like the wedding ring but the blades are long {at least mine will be - they can be different} and there is a center "eye" like the center circle in the Dresden! Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I have used Kathy Doughty's the large quilt that I kept for myself...tee hee! And then Kaffe Fassett's for Clare's. But I have also played around with templates from the Electric Quilt Program.
ReplyDeleteHow I love the block coming my way. LOVE! And your pickledish quilts are just wonderful.
ReplyDeletePerfect for Denyse's new line! I am in love with it, but didn't have any ideas. I'll look forward to seeing more.
ReplyDeleteThat big bug is so fabulous in the centre of the block. I just received my Shelbirne Falls fabric last night, and sbsolutely love these fabrics! A pickle dish will be brilliant! I'm curious which pattern you preferred to make.
ReplyDeleteLove the winged square blocks! I need to get going on mine!
ReplyDeleteThe pickle dish is one of my absolute favourites too. The bug block is awesome, I can see what a gorgeous quilt it would make.
ReplyDeleteYour pickle dish quilts are just gorgeous - especially with the large perle quilting - perfect!

I love your pickle dish quilts. They scare me, but I would love to make one. Hugs and Happy Valentines Day.
ReplyDeletePickle Dish has been on my list for years. Maybe 2013 is the one! Yours is going to be wonderful. The DS fabrics are a great choice for this pattern.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh! I need to make both. Yours are so awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love your style, they look great!
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks. The pickle dish quilts are fantastic. I really want to make one. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYour stag beetle block is awesome !
ReplyDeleteAnd I adore your pickle dish quilt - loved it so much that I think it was when I first got into conversation with you Mary - love it even more for that!
Oh...you've done Gypsy kisses! I love your hand quilting on the one with the light background and centers. Did you make them king sized, as the pattern is written, or did you down-size it somehow?
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw Denyse's new line of fabric it just scream "Make a Pickle dish quilt" to me. So I am going to make the Gypsy kisses. Just trying to decide on background fabrics. Have you picked yours yet?
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled with the fabric you chose for my block!! And I have always wanted to make a pickle dish quilt. Ah...so many MANY things I want to make...
