Curves!!!

It is difficult to do circles without working with curves....I actually enjoy curves.
Working with curves makes me nervous in the beginning and then as it comes together I breathe a sigh of relief and smile....kind of like riding a roller coaster!

I have found the big trick with curves is using lots of pins....

Find the center of your two pieces and pin the centers.  Match the both ends and pin...then pin, pin, pin in between!!!
I have found that it is easier to stitch curves with the concave piece on top and the convex piece on the bottom....

Shorten your stitch length and just go slow....somehow it all works out just fine...

So one block of the Eloise Quilt is finished....I haven't planned the quilt out...it is just evolving

I guess by not committing my ideas to paper....I am not locked in...I can change my mind.  How do you work out quilts?  Do you work it out on paper or just go with the vision in your head?

My vision is telling me this block will need to have a GREEN center!  Yum!

Hope you are having a great Monday!

  1. I'm like you Mary, I like to wing it, too. And oh, the satisfaction of those curves when they come out perfectly! :)

  3. I'm definitely a "go with the vision in my head" kinda girl. Most of the time, I have a really good idea of where I'm going, and other times, I totally wing it.
Also, I like those curves! ;)

  4. Looks like a lot of fun (besides the scary curves). Letting the quilt evolve takes a bit of courage. But it makes the process more exciting, too...

  5. I love the satisfaction that a smoothly curved piece brings! Mostly I like my quilts to evolve too.

  7. Good Morning Mary.
    Your quilt blocks are gorgeous.
I have not tried curved edges yet, but I know where I will come back for references, when I do. :o)
I like to put ideas on paper, just to see it, but when it comes down to the actual sewing, I like to keep my options open and like you, not be bound by something specific.
I hope you are having a wonderful week.
    Sincerely, Trish

  8. your square is beautiful. Reminds me of pinning the cog & wheel squares. i haven't worked with curves since then... but maybe soon. it did feel good after i finished sewing to see that it worked out just right. :-)
