What's your Favorite?

I am often asked, "What is your favorite quilt?"

Well, while my answer may change.  Maybe I haven't made my favorite yet....that is an exciting thought!

I would have to say, at the moment, my favorite quilt would be the Pickle Dish inspired by Kathy Doughty of Material Obsession...

I love the colors and the movement in this quilt, but tied with 'favorite' is the Sarah Fielke quilt that I made for my daughter and son-in-law as a wedding gift...

and I would have to include in my list of favorite quilts...a little courthouse steps quilt inspired by Purl.

I think of this quilt often...it was gifted to a new baby...

so now it is your turn! I would love to hear about your favorite quilt!
EDIT:  I want to hear about the favorite quilt made by you! I appreciate all the kind comments, but maybe your favorite will be my next favorite too ;) Yay!
happy tuesday

  1. Your pickle dish is my favourite you made as it got me following your blog and getting to know you Mary.

The favourite I have made - not sure I think it will be one in my future - there are quite a few stacking up!

  2. I'm a pretty new quilter so I don't have that many projects under my belt yet... Of the 6 projects I've completed thus far I'd have to say that my favorite is my broken dishes quilt that I made for my daughter before she was born. It was my second quilt and my first on the machine so the technique is rough, but the design is there. The points don't always match and sometimes they're off by as much as a half inch and I hadn't yet discovered that I could and should trim my blocks once I am done with them so the top is totally out of square, but I love looking at the primary triangles tessellating out and around. There's so much movement and promise to it. I'd like to say that I've improved since then, but really I've just gotten better at hiding my mistakes.

  3. I can understand why you would have a hard time choosing. My favorite color is yellow, so naturally I am in love with your yellow quilt!

  4. I love them all but the middle one is my favourite as it already looks like an old faded quilt from bygone years, as though it has been well-loved for years. Your blog is great - have enjoyed being here. xCathy

  5. I wouldn't be able to choose a favourite from those three, they are all beautiful

  6. Good question! At this moment, my favorite quilts are your three! As for mine, my favorite quilt is often the one I'm working on. But there are those few that stand out. One is a string pieced tulip quilt--very simply made. The other is a similar pickle dish--more complex. Both have red as the predominant color.

  7. My favourite is generally the one I just made or am in the process of making. I am going to think about your question and try to decide. I am currently making a pickle dish quilt and trying to decide how I will quilt it, so it was so lovely to see yours again for inspiration. I love each of your favourites.

  8. I think my all time favorite (at least today) is my Medallion quilt from Rachel at Stitched in Color's Handstitched class. I tend to avoid embroidery, but I love how the quilt turned out.

  9. Interesting that both of your faves are from the original Material Obsession duo - you have great taste (or at least taste very similar to mine!). My favourite that I've made so far is Frothy. It's a Kaffe Fassett pattern from years ago and is on our bed - just love it, front and back.

  10. My favorite quilt is a string star quilt that I heavily quilted. I love the pickle dish and plan on starting one next year. And I must admit I am a hand quilted snob, whether the quilting sitches are small or big stitched, doesn't make a difference. I would prefer owning one hand quilted quilt over ten machine quilted.

  11. My favorite quilt at the moment is my Stellar Stars Caught in a Web. It's scrappy and bright and has big stitch quilting inspired by you.

  12. I don't have favorites in my quilts (I always remember all the mistakes in each one), but I have to confess your quilts have me wanting to make those for me too!

  13. I have lots of favourites. Thinking about it my liberated quilts are my favourites. My first quilt is a favourite too even though its all a bit crooked and is badly hand quilted its the quilt that started me on my journey so it's special. It's lovely to see your favourites. This would have been a fun linky party.

  15. I really love my "Its a Hoot" quilt. It is my first "modern" finish and was a fun exercise in using "on hand" materials. Plus it is all wrapped up and going to my niece's first baby, due in November :) I do have a couple to finish that would make my favorites list, but they must be finished to be counted!

  16. I can see why they are your favourites...gorgeous! My soul searching quilt is my current favourite.

  17. What a great topic! And I agree with Rachael- it would have made a great linky party! Even though most of the blocks were made by my bee ladies(!!!) I think my favourite quilt is my "birds of a feather" because it is one that challenged my creativity in piecing it together!
Of your quilts Mary, every one is as delicious as the next!

  18. Oh I definitely love the three quilts that you pictured. I have went back and drooled over your log cabin many times! The favorite quilt made by me would have to be my Vintage Reproduction quilt that I finished up earlier this year. It is currently on my bed and everytime I walk into my bedroom it practically stops me in my tracks! Still can't believe that I made something so beautiful (to me).:)

  19. I'm so glad that you showed your Pickle Dish again as it is probably the one I think of first when I think of your fabulous projects. I so have that one on my "To Do" list...maybe next year, huh?! My favorite quilt that I have made so far is probably my Farmer's Wife....it certainly was the most difficult and time consuming, but I love it!

  20. must be hard to pick a favourite when they are all lovely, still to complete a quilt so do not have that problem, have one wall hanging that is slash and stash method, just need borders, quilting and binding done but very wary as it will be my first attempt, fingers crossed when I get the courage all will go well

  22. Yes, I agree with you. All three quilts that you have chosen as your favourites are absolutely lovely. The little yellow one has always been one of my favourites! Now going to look through some of my Flickr photos to see which I love the most from the many, many, many quilts I have made!

  25. To date, I think the Modern Maples I just finished is my favourite because its my own layout . I love all the movement the quilting gave it too.
Your work inspires me constantly. I have Sarah's book too and should really do a project from it. Happy sewing today ; )

  26. I am very very slow quilter - I did not made many quilts. But my favourite is the Irish chain quilt completely made from IKEA fabrics. I made it for my husband, after his death my son adopted this quilt as a memory of his father.

  27. Your pickle dish quilt is wonderful. Love all the colors and prints going on. I also really like the notion that maybe I haven't even made my favorite quilt yet. For right now, my personal favorite is Cascade which also became my second pattern. I never tire of looking at all the prints and fabric combos in that one. And I love the cool color scheme. I find it very soothing and relaxing. You can see it here. http://www.springleafstudios.com/2012/07/stay-cool-and-refreshed-with-new.html

  28. I never thought I was interested in stitching a Pickle Dish quilt, but yours has changed my mind. I think I will have to add one to the list

  29. I love all three of the quilts you showed, and the pickle dish is definitely on my to do list. I have two favorites of the quilts I've made. The first is a New York beauty in purples, blues and greens. All of the crown segments are done in gold fairy frost. The second is still just a top. It is my own design medallion with a bouquet of flowers in the center, pinwheels, and appliquéd border. It is done in 30s fabrics on white.

  31. Honestly, just about anything designed by Emma Jansen of Victoria, Australia, is a favorite. She has such a gift for creating beautiful designs. One (of many) of her designs I haven't yet made is Harlequin Star. Emma's coming out with a new fabric line at fall quilt market, and I'm hoping, hoping we can easily buy it here. Gorgeous stuff!
