Flight!

As the end of the year approaches, I have my last finish of the year to share!
 I call this quilt Flight....

The grey is a new fabric from Studio E....it is a Peppered Cotton in a dark charcoal color.

The Geese are paper foundation pieced.  Two Geese per block with a finished block size of 6 inches square.

I felt the design of this quilt lent itself to machine quilting rather than pick stitch.
So I went with a large loopy motif....easy to do and not at all perfect in appearance.  Call me crazy, but I prefer my quilts to look less than perfect...more homemade and lived-in.

I used Aurifil thread for the piecing and the quilting.

The backing is this fabulous fabric from Anna Maria Horner's Dowry Collection...AMAZING!!!

This quilt is about 42" X 54"....perfect for a lap or a baby....
You can see this one at Sew To Speak....
it will be a class in the New Year!

  Happy Thursday!

Happy Camper

I've finished the Feather Bed Quilt...
pattern and fabric by the very talented Anna Maria Horner!
The quilt was a pleasure to piece!
And that's a good thing!

This is the baby size...measuring about 36 X 50 inches.

almost all the fabrics are Anna Maria's Field Study line...
And the background fabric is Essex linen in Natural...

For the binding I pieced the left over scraps from the feathers

and it is backed in a single cut from the Field Study line..
I love this fabric!

hand quilted with perle cotton....
washed and dried :)

It is a great quilt...give it a try!
While I was putting in the last stitches on the binding, my mailman dropped a package in my mail box...ohhhhh....exciting!

I participated in the Modern Quilted Pillow Swap and my secret swap arrived!
Wowza!
I am one lucky girl!  I received the fabulous Texty Hexie pillow from the magnificent Svetlana of S.O.T.A.K. Handmade.....
Here is a link to her blog post about the pillow...

I love it!
Look how pretty it is on my bed with my other pillows!

and then the icing on the cake was this little pincushion...
how sweet!

Thank you, thank you, Svetlana!  You made my day!
  happy camper!
have a good weekend!

Heaven

I so enjoy waking up in the morning and sitting at the table to quilt.  The house is cool and quiet.  It is a great time to just sit with my quilt, a cup of coffee, and stitch....stillness.
I basted my quilt last night and I did decide to use perle cotton and hand quilt.
I chose to use a single piece of fabric for the backing - rather than piecing the backing.  Hand quilting with Anna Maria Horner voile is just incredible.  The needle glides through the fabric like a knife through warm butter.  And the feel of the fabric is beyond compare.  Although, basting is a bit tricky.  I have found masking tape will not adhere to the voile so I use temporary adhesive (KK 2000 - Sulky) to hold everything in place while I add the basting pins.  It is worth the time and effort.
A special thank you to April from Sew To Speak!  She acted as my tutor yesterday and gave me some terrific technical advice regarding my blog.  I have yet to put her suggestions to practice....hopefully I will be able to remember everything we covered :)  Thanks April!
Back to stitching!
