Building Borders....

No...not North or South, but East and West!  This quilt has piano key borders on the sides and just background borders on the top and bottom.  I love a piano key border....obviously...I used it here, here and here.  They are easy, but make a big impact...I love chosing fabrics for a piano key border that give that POW !!!!
The keys are 2" X 5" ....the fabrics from the arcs...

Chain piecing makes this go much faster!

While I putter away at the 3 projects I have going, my mind keeps wandering back to a couple of single blocks I did....each are different quilts...

But both are circles...I find that I am very drawn to circles....
This one I made a couple of blocks then embroidered one and made it a pillow for my bed ;)

So how about you?  Are there certain blocks or shapes that you are drawn to?

  2. I'm all over the place, too. I don't quilt but I long to. I adore traditonal patterns to crazy art quilts. Just when I think I am more drawn to circles, I see a geometric pattern that is just as delightful. Your 4th photo give me the best of everything!
The embroidered bird with the polka dots is the sweetest!

  8. Love your blocks! I really, really like the last block with the embroidered bird. Is it a mug rug? It's swell! I just completed my first block for the pickledish quilt. It was actually fun to make!

  9. Hi Laura, The last block I actually made into a pillow. It is so sweet. The embroidery pattern is a Jenny Hart pattern. YAY! on the pickledish! Don't you love how perfect they turn out with the paper foundation piecing?

  10. Hi Mary, I'll have to look up those Jenny Hart embroidery patterns. The bird is just too cute! What a good idea for making a pillow from it. :)
I do love the paper piecing! I'm still trying to get the arches more uniform but the paper piecing is brilliant!
