Some New Critters!

Lady Luck was smiling on our little shoppe {Sew To Speak} when a preview of Suzy Ultman's Critter Community arrived..... then the Lady turned her attention on me....when I was allowed to have a bit to make samples for the shoppe....LUCKY ME!!!

So I began cutting some yummy polka dots and gingham.....
a little Critter....

For this project I was inspired by a Log Cabin quilt made in the late 1800's....turned on point...

The Critters will be the fire in the cabin....

This will give you an idea of where I am going....
It is just such a pleasure to work with Suzy's fabrics....so bright and cheery!!!
Happy Monday Everyone!

Dresden Disregarded....

With all this talk of Dresdens....did you know Corey has started a Dresden?  I remembered I have a Dresden that is definitely a belated W.I.P.
Now before you think me delinquent in my quilty duties....I just need to finish hand quilting...and this is my second Dresden....I do love them!

To this Dresden I added Prairie Points between plates and border....

I am quilting the blades, pie sections on the center, and all around the outside of the entire plate...

The background fabric is a white with green polka dots and the center is the opposite...green with white dots...

The back is pieced with log cabins of various sizes....more spots...of course...

There really isn't that much left to do....another project for the stack!!!

Building Borders....

No...not North or South, but East and West!  This quilt has piano key borders on the sides and just background borders on the top and bottom.  I love a piano key border....obviously...I used it here, here and here.  They are easy, but make a big impact...I love chosing fabrics for a piano key border that give that POW !!!!
The keys are 2" X 5" ....the fabrics from the arcs...

Chain piecing makes this go much faster!

While I putter away at the 3 projects I have going, my mind keeps wandering back to a couple of single blocks I did....each are different quilts...

But both are circles...I find that I am very drawn to circles....
This one I made a couple of blocks then embroidered one and made it a pillow for my bed ;)

So how about you?  Are there certain blocks or shapes that you are drawn to?

Out of the Moth Balls...

Or, rather, the cedar cedar chest...I pulled out this variation of Log Cabin called Barn Raising.  I made this quilt in 1993 (yikes!) but it is still so relevant.
A very traditional pattern and hand quilted using traditional techniques (no perle cotton here)
Solid cottons...
The borders are magenta and black with this striking red and black saw-tooth border...and I used black centers in each block rather than the traditional red...I was such a rebel! Ha!
Glad I pulled this out....it makes me happy to see this quilt again.  And goes to prove...everything old is new again!
