Painting With Thread....

I did a little painting today....with thread...giving my Christmas scene a little detail...
.

My stitching is intentionally sloppy organic to give this a child like appearance.

I used my free-motion foot, dropped the feed dogs and, in most cases, used Sew-All thread {Gutermann}
I would usually choose the lovely YLI 100% cotton thread for a project like this, but I have found with the layering of fusible adhesive.... the Sew-All holds up a little better.  It is not so bad on small pieces, but on the longer stretches of stitching the YLI is just shredding....

Also....a little tissue paper under the areas where I am stitching directly on the background fabric...helps eliminate some of the puckering...the tissue paper acts as a stabilizer {you could also use a light stabilizer}

Hope all is well with all of you.  We have had some fierce storms the past couple of days...nothing compared to poor Joplin though.  It breaks my heart to hear the stories.
Take care...
mary

***my blogger is still not letting me leave comments on blog where I must choose a profile.  It works fine on the pop up window for comments....I have changed my comment section to the pop up type...I have my fingers crossed that all will be resolved soon :)

Still loving your Christmas village - can I just move in? But you will have to make me a garden!

Hello there, just found your lovely blog, what a Christmassy scene and so colourful, the organic stitching really adds to the design.

I think there is some kind of error in the "embedded below post" comment box option, I've changed to "full page" instead.

I love this! Were you inspired by the work of blogger Syko, perchance? I love her work and her book, and I love your piece too.

Tissue paper - do you put it under the background fabric?

Thanks!

I love what you have done with Santa's village! This is something I've wanted to try for ages so now I will need to plan something! It won't be as fabulous as yours though! Stay safe!

Your little Christmas Village is so sweet!! I love your stitching, thanks for the thread tips! I'm looking forward to see the whole piece when its finished. Is it a tree skirt?

I completely adore the scribbly stitching and the look it gives a project.

I think the blogger profile issue is caused by the latest update to Internet Explorer. I am fine on my home laptop (Chrome) but at work (IE) is where my problems are.
