What Inspires You?

I've been thinking....{scary, I know} about what inspires us to quilt and create...
Is it color?

Is it print or pattern?

Is it shape or form?

Is it found in architecture?

Or in nature?

Do you actively seek out your inspiration or does it just happen?
I am so inspired by many things - extraordinary and mundane....

What inspires you?

Picking up a little inspiration for some Shoo-fly fun!

Happy Monday!

  4. So much inspires me. My girls inspire me daily, my home, my friends. I love color and if you check out my boards on Pinterest you would find color inspires me most and sunshine and blogs like yours. ~Kelly

  5. That's a really good question, Mary. Many different things inspire me and in different ways. I want to make a birdhouse for my garden and I may see a home on a walk with a shape perfect for one - or the home may inspire pottery or a painting. The garden may inspire a painting or a quilt. Even clouds have inspired paintings! Other people's creations (like yours!) also inspire me. I guess the easiest thing to say is life is my inspiration!

  6. Great post. I'm inspired buy color mostly and then shapes. I seem to be revisiting my childhood, when I chose to use every color in the crayon box at least once. That's what must have formed my love of scrap quilts.

  7. I agree with the person who said that you inspire me. That often happens to me when I'm reading your posts. That aside, I totally am inspired by architectural elements, usually very seemingly mundane--maybe a linoleum floor in a fast food restaurant. Your blocks are fabulous! I really like the freedom you are giving to the shoofly and the color combinations. And that orange teapot is to die for!

  8. I love your liberated shooflys - I made some of these as part of a swap and they were a lot of fun to make. I'm also in love with your redware plate. I have a small collection myself.

I'm inspired by colors and everything aroundme - and using colors to convey/create a mood.

  9. A beautiful post! Sometimes I'm compelled to play with certain colours, other times a fabric jumps out at me and has to be used. Nature, buildings, art, even music all make me want to create. There is so much inspiration everywhere!

  10. I'm sure didn't intend for this to be about you, Mary, but I am another one who would say that you and your blog have inspired me from the first time I read it. Other inspiration comes from books, magazines, art, flower arrangements, advertisements, product packaging, fabric design and color, of course!

  12. I am generally inspired by something linear and colorful. Not so much for curves. Nature also works.

  13. Now I REALLY want to make one of these squares! I love the complete off symmetry look.

  17. I love this post! You absolutely inspire me! In a recent interview over at Amy's you mentioned taking chances with color and I'm so not that when it comes to quilting, but when I look at your work, I feel very encouraged to try! I'm one who seeks inspiration for quilting. You really show me the possibilities and I get excited to see what I might come up with! I love flowers {real and photographed} and interior design magazines, too! :)
