I have, for the first time, joined a Bee! A Bee for quilters of, let's say, a more mature age....ugh. Okay...I am certainly not one to focus on age...but it does get my knickers in a knot when folks have the misguided notion that if you are of a certain generation, you just can't relate. Your ideas are old and out of touch.
Like I said, misguided.....
So....this is a Bee of Mid-Century Modern Quilters....
And our first month is a Churn Dash....
January is Carla's month...
I am hoping to have another block as well....
And another sneak peek at another Modern WIP....Modern with Traditional Inspiration.
From Denyse Schmidt's Book....
Modern Quilts Traditional Inspiration...
Love the reds....reminds me of Valentines Day!
Nothing tired and old about this!
happy monday!
mary
Love your churn dash Mary! So happy to be "beeing" with you!
ReplyDeletethe churn blocks are great, but totally in love with the courthouse step?
ReplyDeleteYou are the courthouse steps queen Mary!
ReplyDeleteHow very daring joining a bee, I look forward to the results!!
My "knickers get in a knot" about that very same notion!! Your blocks are stunners!
ReplyDeleteKnickers in knots...a quilt block waiting to happen! LOL
ReplyDeleteYour churn dashes look very modern! Can't wait to see more of them, AND your log cabin quilt!
ReplyDeleteOohh love your logo! The blocks are fabulous :)
ReplyDeleteEveryone is as old as they feel! Right now I'm about 87 and my 94yr old Nan is 26!
Great looking blocks! and I'm totally with you on the age thing. Seems like my knickers are permanently in a knot (which is one of the hallmarks of age, isn't it, ha ha). Nothing age related about sensibility and style! Loving yours!
ReplyDeleteI love your bee blocks - have a fabulous time!
ReplyDeleteLove the blocks...that DS quilt is one of my favourites!
ReplyDeleteFirstly- two posts in one day- I am impressed!!! Secondly, your bee block is wild! You have an amazing stash! There are some fabulous fabrics in that churn dash! And I agree with Clare- you are THE queen of courthouse steps! ( not the real ones, I hope!!!!!!)
ReplyDeleteMary, I am so delighted that I get to call that adorable block MINE! Thank you. I'm also so happy that you decided to join the Bee....it will be a fun group...after all, it takes one to know one, right!
ReplyDeleteLove your churn dash blocks, fabulous colours and fabrics. The DS courthouse block, so vibrant.
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks, looks pretty exciting! Love the DS book, but haven' seen it about too much over here.
ReplyDeleteHugs - Lurline.
Love your churn dash blocks so bright and happy.
ReplyDeleteOk...this is very cool!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are always incredible and a joy to view! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteA Bee for quilters, fantastic! Age isnt important- just enjoy! :) x
ReplyDeletetotally gorgeous-as usual!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your fun fun bee blocks. I LOVE your courthouse steps, your fabric choices are beautiful as always!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I'm with you. Time to put a difficult year behind me and hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteI am seriously in love with these churn dash and courthouse steps blocks---seriously!!
ReplyDeleteGreat colours in your blocks. Like you, I get annoyed at being labeled behind the times because of age, but then I think back and remember how arrogant I was in my twenties. Not on purpose, I think it's just the way youth can look at age. Is you bee a closed shop?
ReplyDeleteSaw those gorgeous churn dashes on Flickr and was in love! But more courthouse steps too - those reds are knockout! Nothing fuddy duddy about you Mary!
ReplyDeleteLove you twisted trad style!
These blocks are my colors! Love them. I think the bee button is very clever. I bet I qualify for this....sshhhh...don't tell anyone! I remember that we share the same birthday but I wonder if its the same year? Email me your year and ill email you mine! :-D. Is this wedding quilt for your daughter?
ReplyDeleteI received a churn dash quilt pattern as a door prize when I first started quilting about nine years ago. I never made the pattern since is is made in traditional prints and colors, so I never had an interest. After looking at your blocks I have a change of heart about the block and quilt pattern. I think the colors that you have used are exciting and fresh. I am glad that I still have the pattern to use. Thank you for helping see a traditional quilt block in a new refreshing light.
ReplyDeleteSo modern indeed! Her quilt is going to be fabulous. Your block is very fun and the log cabin is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWasn't the churn dash block fun? I absolutely loved working with the pink/red/orange.
ReplyDeleteoh gosh. Really? People actually think that? With age and experience comes wisdom, no?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely nothing old fashioned about anything you make, you're one of the 'youngest' and freshest quilters out there!
